“Odo Nwom,” a song by Kofi Nti and Ofori Amponsah released in 2010, has resulted in a significant financial gain for the duo following a copyright infringement case.
In June 2024, American actor and film producer Tyler Perry shared a behind-the-scenes video showing the song being played during the filming of his television series “Tyler Perry Sistas.” This sparked concerns among Ghanaian music fans about potential copyright violations.
Kofi Nti revealed that he and Ofori Amponsah have received compensation from Tyler Perry for the use of their song.
He explained that their lawyers in the United Kingdom reached out to Perry’s team and successfully negotiated a settlement.
“I collaborated on that song with Ofori Amponsah. We had a lawyer in the UK who contacted their team, and everything was negotiated smoothly. We resolved the issue, and a little money was involved,” he said.
Kofi Nti and Ofori Amponsah are also known for their popular collaborations, including songs like “Atwetaan,” “Bra,” and “Wake Up.”
