Kofi Jumah Did Not Steal GIHOC Vehicles; His Conditions of Service Permitted Him to Purchase Official Vehicles – Lawyer

Lawyer cites service conditions allowing vehicle purchase after two years

Story Highlights
  • Kofi Jumah legally purchased the vehicles under his conditions of service
  • His lawyer denies any fraud or theft, calling the allegations false
  • The vehicles had been at GIHOC for over a month before the arrest

The legal team of former GIHOC Distilleries Managing Director, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has firmly rejected allegations that he stole company vehicles, insisting that he lawfully purchased the cars under his official conditions of service.

Speaking in an interview on Ghana Se Sen show on Lawson TV/Radio on Tuesday 1st July, 2025, Lawyer Akwasi Owusu Forjour Nkwantabisa, who represents Mr. Jumah, clarified that his client is not a thief and did not engage in any fraudulent activity in acquiring the vehicles.

“Kofi Jumah is not a thief and has not stolen any car. His conditions of service stated that he shall be permitted to purchase an official vehicle, provided that the vehicle is not less than two years old,” Lawyer Forjour said.

According to the lawyer, the vehicles in question—a Toyota Sequoia, an Audi, and a Hyundai—had been parked at GIHOC premises for over a month.

He emphasized that Mr. Jumah purchased the vehicles himself and followed the legal process, invoking a clause in his conditions of service in September 2022 that allowed him to buy the official cars after serving a minimum duration.

“He didn’t use ‘419’ [fraud] to buy the cars,” the lawyer added, dismissing speculation of dishonest dealings.

Mr. Jumah was appointed by former President Nana Akufo-Addo in August 2017 and received his official conditions of service in September 2017.

One of the stipulations allowed him to purchase the vehicle he was using at the end of his tenure, as long as it had been in use for more than two years.

The lawyer also noted that one of the cars had reportedly been at Abossey Okai, a well-known vehicle hub in Accra, for seven years before it was acquired by Mr. Jumah.

This clarification comes after Mr. Jumah was granted bail of GHS500,000 with two sureties following his appearance at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters on Monday, June 30, over the vehicle theft allegations.

The case continues to draw public interest, as more details are expected to unfold in the coming weeks.
