Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has pledged to do whatever it takes to ensure the Black Stars secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This commitment comes on the heels of the team’s shocking failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking the first time in two decades that Ghana will miss the continental showpiece. The Black Stars finished at the bottom of Group F, earning just three points in six matches.

With World Cup qualifiers resuming next month against Chad and Madagascar, Kofi Adams has assured fans of his unwavering determination to guide the team to its fifth World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

“Whatever I will have to do as the Sports Minister to ensure that Ghana qualifies for the 2026 World Cup, I’ll do it,” said the Buem Constituency MP in an interview.

Acknowledging the disappointment of missing AFCON, Mr. Adams stressed that the World Cup is a bigger priority. “It is unfortunate that African countries will be meeting at AFCON, and Ghana will not be present, but the World Cup is different, and I know the government also has an interest in that.”

He further appealed to Ghanaians to rally behind the team during this critical period. “If the team has wronged anyone, I will appeal that we all unite for the good cause of the team and ensure that we qualify for the tournament.”

The Black Stars are set to host Chad on March 17 before traveling to Madagascar for a crucial encounter on March 24, with both games being decisive in their qualification campaign.
