The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 21-year-old Daniel Tuffuor, a final-year student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), for questioning regarding the tragic death of his alleged girlfriend, Miss Joana Deladem Yabani.
Ms. Yabani, who was also in her final year studying Biological Sciences, was discovered lifeless around 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025, near the university’s Disability and Rehabilitation Centre by campus security personnel.
According to DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Tuffuor was identified through campus CCTV footage, which played a crucial role in his apprehension.
“The suspect was captured on surveillance cameras, and he is currently assisting with investigations,” DCOP Cudjoe disclosed.
In response to the incident, the police have ramped up security on campus, implementing a 24-hour surveillance system to enhance student and staff safety.
The university, in a statement issued on February 27, 2025, disclosed that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare had personally reached out to Vice-Chancellor Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, assuring her of heightened security measures.
Reacting to the tragic development, the Vice-Chancellor described the loss as devastating, especially for the victim’s family.
“Waking up to such tragic news is heartbreaking. Losing a student this way is deeply painful, particularly for the parents. We appreciate the IGP’s swift response and the security measures in place,” she stated.
The police have assured the public of a thorough investigation, vowing to bring justice to Miss Yabani and her family.
