- Allegations include violation of oaths and security breaches with FBI involvement
Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie, Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Searchlight newspaper, has formally petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo to remove Kissi Agyebeng from his role as Special Prosecutor.
Kuranchie alleges that Agyebeng has breached his official oath and violated secrecy protocols, actions he claims could compromise national security and the economy. He cited Section 15(1) of the Special Prosecutor Act (Act 959), outlining misconduct and other criteria for removal.
Kuranchie further accused Agyebeng of unauthorized actions, including arranging FBI-led security checks on the majority of his office’s staff, which he argued infringes Ghanaian law and data protection regulations.
As a result, the President has directed the Chief Justice to assess the claims for potential grounds of removal.
Earlier this year, Kuranchie also pursued legal action to declare the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) unconstitutional, though his case was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
