Asante Kotoko has announced plans to formally report Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over her handling of investigations into the tragic death of their supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.
The club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Nana Apinkra, expressed dissatisfaction with DCOP Donkor’s involvement in the case and called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to remove her from the investigation.
“We will officially report Lydia Donkor to the IGP, and we want the GFA to remove her from the case because she was appointed by you,” Nana Apinkra asserted during a Kotoko Executive meeting with a delegation from the GFA and GHALCA.
The frustrations stem from DCOP Donkor’s recent remarks suggesting that Pooley’s death occurred outside the stadium, not within. These comments have sparked outrage among Kotoko supporters, who are demanding a transparent and impartial investigation.
In an interview, DCOP Donkor stated: “This unfortunate incident [the fan’s stabbing] didn’t happen inside the stadium. It happened outside, and he was picked up by a tricycle and dropped at that section of the stadium.”
The club’s call for accountability highlights their commitment to seeking justice for Pooley and ensuring a thorough probe into the incident.
