The Chairman of Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), Nana Akwasi Apinkra Awuah, has called on the club’s supporters to exercise patience and allow the Ghana Police Service to thoroughly investigate the tragic death of Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
Nana Pooley, a dedicated supporter of the Porcupine Warriors, was fatally stabbed during the club’s Ghana Premier League matchday 19 fixture against Nsoatreman in Nsoatre. The heartbreaking incident has left fans and the football community in mourning.
On Sunday, February 9, a solemn vigil was held at the Baba Yara Stadium to honor the memory of the deceased. Addressing fans at the vigil, Nana Apinkra Awuah reassured them that the case is being handled at the highest levels of national security, with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) personally involved in the investigations.
“It’s been a week since Pooley’s passing, and the matter is with national security. The IGP has assured us of his commitment, and we are satisfied with the progress made so far,” he stated. “I urge everyone not to act on rumors or take matters into their own hands. Let’s trust the law to deliver justice. I promise you this case will not go unresolved.”
He further appealed to fans with any relevant information to report it to the Kotoko Secretariat to aid the ongoing investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has already arrested six suspects in connection with the incident, with two of them, including former Sunyani West MP Ignatius Baffour Awuah, granted bail.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken proactive steps by engaging Premier League clubs and their supporters to address safety concerns and prevent such tragedies in the future.
