Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice-designate, has committed to safeguarding citizens’ rights with the planned revival of a modernized public tribunal system.

The initiative aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto promise to decentralize justice delivery nationwide.

Speaking at his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 13, 2025, Dr. Ayine addressed concerns raised in the Africa Watch Human Rights Report (Volume 4) about past abuses tied to public tribunals. He reassured the committee that such violations would not occur under his stewardship.

To ensure accountability, he proposed drafting a Public Tribunal Court Act to regulate operations and maintain the highest standards of fairness and justice.

“My approach is to enact a comprehensive Public Tribunal Act, embedding safeguards and strict guidelines to guarantee ethical practices,” Dr. Ayine stated.

He further emphasized his commitment to aligning governance with the 1992 Constitution, reinforcing the rule of law and human rights protections.
