Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has urged Ghanaians to stay patient as the country braces for a 14.75% rise in electricity tariffs, set to take effect on May 3, 2025.
This tariff adjustment, announced by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), is part of efforts to stabilize the energy sector and address persistent financial and operational issues.
Speaking during the West African Gas Pipeline Project’s Committee of Ministers meeting in Accra, Jinapor emphasized that the increase is necessary to ensure a stable power supply and to support ongoing sector reforms.
“I urge Ghanaians and all consumers to bear with us through these tough yet essential decisions, as we work towards securing reliable and sustainable power sources that are key to our economic growth,” he remarked.
