Jamie Carragher: Mohammed Kudus Should Be Playing for a Top Club
Liverpool legend says Kudus' dip in form has hurt West Ham’s season

- West Ham currently sit 15th in the league standings with one match remaining
- Kudus was a standout performer in the 2023–2024 season
- The 23-year-old Black Stars midfielder played 79 minutes in the loss to Forest
Liverpool great Jamie Carragher has suggested that Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus is too talented to be playing for a club battling in the lower half of the Premier League table.
Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of West Ham United’s recent 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, Carragher cited Kudus’ underwhelming season as one of the key reasons behind the Hammers’ disappointing 2024–2025 campaign. West Ham currently sit 15th in the league standings with one match remaining, a drop from their ninth-place finish last season.
“There’s no doubt he’s a quality player,” Carragher said. “He should be playing for a team closer to the top of the table, not near the bottom. One of the reasons West Ham are where they are this season is because Kudus hasn’t hit the form he showed last year.”
Kudus was a standout performer in the 2023–2024 season, scoring 8 goals and providing 9 assists in 33 Premier League appearances. However, he has struggled to replicate that impact this term, recording just 4 goals and 3 assists in 31 games.
The 23-year-old Black Stars midfielder played 79 minutes in the loss to Forest. West Ham will end their season on Sunday, May 25, with a match against Ipswich Town.
With his talent clear, Carragher hinted that Kudus may be due for a move, saying he “wouldn’t be surprised if there was a change” in the near future.
