Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the former Majority Leader, has revealed that the committee tasked with investigating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the Ashanti region during the December 7 elections is nearing completion of its report.
In the election, President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured a clear victory with over 6 million votes, while Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP garnered 4 million.
The NDC also gained a parliamentary majority, defeating several NPP Members of Parliament and currently holding 183 seats compared to the NPP’s 88.
Speaking in an interview, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu expressed his disappointment with the party’s performance, calling it “poor” and “abysmal.”
He confirmed that the team in Ashanti region had been investigating the factors behind the party’s loss, and as the head of the committee, he expects the findings to be ready in the coming weeks.
