International Relations Expert Reveals Real Reasons Behind U.S. Strike on Iran

Isaac Agyemang Duah cites security, oil interests, and protection of Israel as key motivations for the airstrike

Story Highlights
  • U.S. strike aimed to protect Israel and control Iran’s nuclear threat
  • Oil security and military presence also factored into the decision
  • Expert says America should have pursued mediation, not bombing

An International Relations and Security expert, Isaac Agyemang Duah, has weighed in on the recent United States airstrike on Iranian nuclear sites, describing the move as a calculated action rooted in America’s long-standing security interests in the Middle East.

Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen Show on Lawson TV/Radio Ghana on Friday, June 27th, 2025, Duah explained that the U.S. bombing of three nuclear facilities in Iran — including the high-profile Fordo site — was motivated by some major concerns: the protection of its allies, the threat of Iranian nuclear capabilities, and the economic risks tied to global oil production.

“If you are an international relations expert, you may agree or disagree with the action  but 90% of Americans will support it because it aligns with America’s core interest — security.”

He stressed that one of America’s top priorities is defending its allies, particularly Israel, which remains under constant threat from Iran’s growing nuclear program. “Iran having nuclear weapons is a direct danger to Israel. If provoked, Iran could act, and that’s a scenario the U.S. cannot risk,” he added.

Beyond geopolitical alliances, Duah also highlighted the economic factor, especially oil. “If Iran decides to shut down its oil exports out of anger, oil prices globally will skyrocket. That would have ripple effects on economies around the world. The U.S. wants to avoid giving Iran any motive to escalate tension.”

Trump’s Strike and Political Showmanship

President Donald Trump took credit for the military strike in a statement on Saturday, declaring the mission a success.

“This is a HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ISRAEL, AND THE WORLD. IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR,” Trump posted on social media following the announcement.

However, Duah distanced himself from Trump’s leadership style, expressing skepticism about the former president’s motives and legacy.

“Trump didn’t walk the talk he promised. He plays on people’s minds with religion, but he doesn’t even belong to any church,” Duah said.

“He promised to return America to God, but after six months in power, name one thing he did in that direction.”

He also criticized the inconsistency in U.S. foreign policy: “Why bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities and leave Israel’s untouched? If the concern is global nuclear safety, then apply the standards equally.”

A Call for Mediation Over Violence

Despite the strategic motivations behind the airstrike, Duah believes the U.S. chose the wrong path.

“The best America could have done is mediation. Bombing Iran wasn’t the answer — it only adds fuel to the fire,” he argued.

“You don’t solve tension with violence, especially in a region already struggling with deep-rooted conflict.”

Duah didn’t shy away from controversial issues during the interview, touching on topics like LGBTQ+ rights and corruption in America. While asserting that he doesn’t support same-sex relationships, he suggested that those involved may need medical and psychological support, rather than societal condemnation.

“We live in a world where people prefer hypocrisy over honesty,” he said. “Justice has been reduced in number, and corruption — though punishable by law — still thrives, even in America.”
