Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that forward Diogo Jota will miss the upcoming Premier League match against Arsenal this Sunday.
Jota sustained a chest injury during last week’s victory over Chelsea when defender Tosin Adarabioyo fell on him.
The Portuguese international also missed Liverpool’s Champions League win over RB Leipzig and will be sidelined alongside winger Federico Chiesa. Right-back Conor Bradley’s participation is uncertain as well.
“While they’re feeling better, they won’t be ready to play this weekend,” Slot said. “Federico might join training today or tomorrow, but Diogo definitely won’t, and we’ll see about Conor.”
In addition, goalkeeper Alisson Becker remains out with a hamstring injury from the October 5 match against Crystal Palace and is expected to be unavailable until at least mid-November.
“He’s progressing as expected, but it’s not a quick recovery, making it tough to assess his timeline,” Slot added. “The best way to evaluate an injury is at the end of the recovery process, and he’s not there yet.”
As Liverpool heads into the match atop the table, they hold a four-point lead over third-placed Arsenal, who Slot noted have been a strong competitor in recent seasons.
“Right now, it’s hard to predict who will be our biggest rival, but Arsenal will certainly be one of them, so gaining or losing points against them is crucial,” he said. “Winning away at Arsenal or Manchester City is always a challenge, but we’ll be aiming for that on Sunday.”
