Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has made a resounding call for unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as it looks ahead to the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at the NPP Constituency Chairmen Caucus Conference on Saturday, June 21, in Kumasi, Dr. Acheampong issued a clear and determined message about his political aspirations.
“I’m not here to test the waters. I’m here for power,” he proclaimed, receiving enthusiastic applause from the energized crowd.
His remarks marked the beginning of what he described as a committed and strategic campaign to steer the NPP back into government.
Dr. Acheampong highlighted his long-standing service to the party — from grassroots mobilization to his current roles as MP and former Cabinet Minister — stressing that these experiences have equipped him to lead the party into its next chapter.
One chairman at the conference summed up the mood:
“This is bigger than Bryan — it’s about building a stronger, united party.”
Though the NPP’s flagbearer race won’t be officially decided until January 31, 2026, Dr. Acheampong’s speech left little doubt that he is entering the race with confidence and clarity, with victory and party unity as his rallying cry.
He now joins a growing list of contenders including Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe, and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong — all vying to lead the party into the 2028 elections.
