In the Ashanti Region, a police team led by ACP Joseph Nyaaba targeted a galamsey site just 200 meters from Asare Bediako Senior High School in Akrokerri. Nine suspects were detained for using explosives that caused damage to the school property.
On May 29, a coordinated raid at Dunkwa-On-Offin in the Central Region, led by Superintendent David Ashong and ASP Emmanuel Bruce, resulted in the arrest of two illegal miners operating excavators near the River Offin.
A massive operation was also executed in Wassa Dadieso, where 82 police personnel arrested several illegal miners working perilously close to residences and roads. The crackdown extended to nearby Wassa Gyapa, where over 135 galamsey machines were destroyed, a motorbike impounded, and six suspects arrested despite challenging terrain.
All detainees are currently in custody and aiding investigations, with formal charges expected soon. The police have confirmed plans for ongoing operations to further combat illegal mining and protect the environment.
