President John Mahama has called on public sector workers not to remain silent in the face of mismanagement within state institutions.
Speaking during the May Day celebration at Black Star Square in Accra, Mahama encouraged employees to boldly challenge incompetent leadership in their workplaces, assuring them of his full backing.
“Many of you have been working in state institutions that have been poorly managed for years,” he stated. “Don’t stay silent while your enterprise is driven into collapse—you are the first to suffer when that happens. These institutions belong to you, and you must help protect them.”
Mahama stressed the importance of workers taking ownership of their workplaces, adding that his administration is committed to standing with those who speak truth to power. He promised that under his leadership, public and private sector reforms would focus on timely salary payments, improved working conditions, and reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies.
He also addressed wage disparities in the public sector, announcing that a future constitutional review would consider the establishment of an independent emoluments commission to create a more balanced and equitable salary structure across all job levels.
“Let’s work together—management and workers alike—to revive and strengthen our state-owned institutions. They belong to all of us,” Mahama urged.
