Eugene Boakye Antwi, a former Member of Parliament for Subin, has sparked debate with his candid remarks, expressing a clear preference for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to regain control in the 2028 elections—even if it means President John Dramani Mahama falls short in his current term.
Speaking in an interview on July 1, Boakye Antwi clarified that while he doesn’t wish ill upon Ghana, he doubts the National Democratic Congress (NDC) can fulfill its promises effectively. “I want Mahama to fail—not Ghana. My goal is for the NPP to return to power in 2028. From what I’ve seen, I don’t believe the NDC can deliver much,” he stated.
Reflecting on his time in government, Antwi cited internal political struggles as a significant hindrance to presidential success. He believes the NDC is likely to face similar dysfunctions within its ranks.
“In government, sometimes your own appointees can sabotage your efforts. The behavior I witnessed during our time in office—those same Ghanaians are in the NDC now. The dysfunction will continue,” he remarked.
Antwi emphasized that his skepticism stems largely from concerns over the NDC’s economic management, stating flatly that he does not believe they have the expertise to handle the country’s economy effectively. “I don’t want Mahama to succeed—because I want my party to win. I simply don’t trust the NDC’s ability to manage the economy,” he concluded.
