Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed the intense drama that unfolded today when national security operatives stormed his home.

According to Wontumi, he physically struggled with the security forces for over 30 minutes as they attempted to force their way inside—but he stood his ground and refused to be dragged out.

Wontumi said the operatives arrived with a heavy presence, including about 100 armed military and police officers, equipped with guns, axes, sticks, and other weapons. When they initially failed to break in, Wontumi said her called on his supporters to gather outside his residence, which temporarily forced the security forces to retreat.

However, he affirmed that, they soon returned more heavily armed, even deploying a drone that crashed inside his home—an incident Wontumi says left the operatives begging for its return.

He also revealed during an interview that,  that a helicopter was brought as part of the operation, allegedly with plans to capture him and fly him to Tamale.

Despite the overwhelming show of force, Wontumi fiercely defended his home, even unleashing his dogs on the operatives.

“I did not bow to them,” he said, emphasizing his determination not to be intimidated.

He questioned why such extreme measures were necessary when he had already accepted a police warrant to appear in court on Monday. “I am not a minister or part of the government—so why this excessive force?” he asked.

Wontumi also accused the government of political persecution, highlighting how his bank accounts were frozen without notice and how his businesses were targeted, a pattern he says has repeated since 2013. “What have I done to deserve this treatment? It’s too personal,” he lamented.

Warning about the country’s future, Wontumi cautioned that the escalating political tension could lead to a coup if not addressed. “What Mahama is doing is dangerous for Ghana’s democracy,” he said.

Despite the ordeal, Wontumi reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and promised to honor his court summons on May 26. “I respect the courts and will cooperate fully,” he stated.

He concluded by calling on Ghanaians and the international community to pay attention to the situation, describing the attack as an effort to undermine his bid for the NPP National Chairmanship.
