High Court Mandates EC to Resolve Tema Central Polling Dispute
High Court Directs Completion of Results Amid Jurisdiction Dispute and Security Concerns
- High Court grants mandamus compelling the EC to complete collation in Tema Central and three other constituencies
- NPP's application prevails after NDC's jurisdiction objection is dismissed
- IGP directed to ensure safety for smooth collation process completion
The High Court has granted a mandamus application for Tema Central, compelling the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation of results from two outstanding polling stations.
The ruling follows a legal application by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which also addresses similar issues in Okaikwei Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North.
The court dismissed an objection raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which questioned its jurisdiction in the matter.
The NPP’s legal team, led by Gary Nimako, argued that the EC failed to finalize the collation process between December 8, 2024, and January 1, 2025. Previously, Ebi Bright of the NDC was declared the winner in Tema Central, but a re-collation later declared Charles Forson of the NPP as the victor. The EC cited threats to its staff in the area as the reason for the delays.
The court also directed Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akufo-Dampare to provide security for a smooth completion of the collation process.
