“He’ll Clear His Name” – Wontumi’s Lawyers Express Confidence
Legal team says they are monitoring developments and will act once formal charges are filed.

- Wontumi's lawyers say he has a strong legal defence and is prepared to respond to any formal charges
- A motion to review his GH¢50 million bail was withdrawn after being filed without his explicit consent
- He was released from custody on June 2 after fulfilling bail conditions and a legal back-and-forth
Enoch Afoakwa, a member of the legal team representing Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says his client is well-prepared to answer any formal charges that may result from ongoing investigations.
On Monday, June 2, Wontumi’s lawyers withdrew a motion they had earlier filed to seek a review of his GH¢50 million bail conditions. The motion, which was filed at the High Court in Accra on May 30, had been scheduled for a hearing on June 3, but was pulled a day earlier.
Wontumi had been granted bail on May 28, with two justified sureties. His legal team, led by Andy Appiah-Kubi, confirmed that all bail conditions were met by May 30. However, his release was held up due to the pending bail review motion — a move the lawyers say was made without Wontumi’s direct authorization.
Following several legal maneuvers, Wontumi was finally released from custody.
Speaking in an interview shortly after the release, Afoakwa emphasized that the legal team is closely watching developments and will act decisively once any formal charges are presented.
He stated, “Anyone who believes in their actions and approaches the law with diligence can mount a credible defence. We are awaiting an official charge from law enforcement. Until then, we remain ready to respond appropriately.”
Afoakwa further cautioned against jumping to conclusions, noting that the team would only lay out its full legal strategy once the authorities decide to move forward with charges.
