Heavy Rains Trigger Blackout at KIA, Disrupting Flights
Unexpected power outage delays flights and inconveniences passengers as backup system faces technical glitch.

A heavy downpour on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, triggered a power outage at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra, causing disruptions to flight operations.
The blackout halted check-in processes and security screenings, leading to delays for both arrivals and departures.
In response, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) explained that while backup generators activated as expected, an electrical system fault delayed power restoration to the terminal. Full power was restored at 18:19 hrs.
Airport authorities apologized for the inconvenience and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring smooth operations for passengers.
