A young woman has been taken into custody by the Bawku West District police for allegedly abandoning her four-day-old baby at the Zebilla market.

The woman, along with her accomplice, who is her sister, were apprehended at Kuloko, a village in the Binduri District, Upper East Region.

The incident occurred on Friday, March 28, 2025, when the infant was discovered abandoned near shops at the Zebilla market.

The police quickly intervened, and with the help of the social welfare team, the baby was transported to the Zebilla District Hospital for medical care.

On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, Zebilla police raided Kuloko and arrested the woman and her sister.

Joseph Anaba, the Assembly Member for Kuloko, confirmed the arrest and revealed that the suspect had been unaware of the father’s identity when she conceived months earlier.
