In a bid to end the nationwide nurses’ strike, the Ministry of Health has entered into a high-level closed-door meeting with leaders of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) and other critical stakeholders.

The negotiations, currently underway, are seen as pivotal in determining whether the ongoing industrial action will be suspended or extended in the days ahead.

Tony Goodman, Public Relations Officer for the Ministry, said on Monday, June 9, that the Ministry remains optimistic about reaching a positive resolution. He highlighted that the willingness of GRNMA leaders to return to the negotiation table is an encouraging sign.

“This meeting aligns with the Minister’s recent calls for renewed dialogue,” Goodman said. “We’re pleased the association’s leadership responded positively and showed up. Their presence signals they recognize the importance of finding a solution.”

As talks continue, the nationwide strike continues to severely disrupt healthcare services. Public hospitals have scaled down operations, leaving many patients without critical care and pushing the health system into crisis mode.
