GWL to Temporarily Shut Down Barekese Water Plant – Residents Urged to Store Water

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) in the Ashanti Region has announced a planned shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant from Monday, March 17th to Wednesday, March 19th, 2025.

This temporary closure will allow for the installation of new interconnection pipelines and foot valves at the Suame roundabout, a crucial upgrade aimed at improving water supply across Kumasi and its surrounding areas, including Offinso.

In a statement, GWL acknowledged the inconvenience this may cause but assured the public that their engineers will work swiftly to restore supply within the scheduled timeframe.

The company urged hospitals, schools, and essential service providers to store enough water ahead of the shutdown.

GWL also reiterated its commitment to enhancing water distribution efficiency, emphasizing that the maintenance work is part of broader efforts to address supply challenges in the metropolis.

Residents are advised to make the necessary preparations, as the improvements will lead to a more reliable water supply in the long run.
