The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) has called on the government to introduce business-friendly policies in the upcoming 2025 budget, aimed at creating a more favorable economic environment for traders.

GUTA believes that simplifying the tax system and reducing taxes, duties, and levies will significantly lower the high cost of doing business in Ghana.

The association, in a press release signed by President Dr. Joseph Obeng, welcomed the government’s commitment to reducing business costs.

Key expectations outlined by GUTA for the 2025 budget include:

  • Scrapping “nuisance taxes” to reduce the overall number of taxes that hinder business growth.
  • Introducing unconditional tax amnesty programs to broaden the tax base, encourage non-tax paying businesses to join the tax system, and allow businesses with tax irregularities to regularize their tax obligations, ultimately enhancing government revenue mobilization.
