A deadly gun attack on a bus carrying mostly women in Bawku on January 6, 2025, has left one person dead and several others injured.
The bus, en route from Bolgatanga to Bawku under security escort, was ambushed by unknown assailants who opened fire.
The victim, Nuaima Awudu, a young trader from Bolgatanga, was killed during the assault. Several other passengers were injured and are currently receiving treatment at Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.
This attack follows another deadly incident just a day earlier, where a resident was killed while trying to relocate within the town.
These recent acts of violence have shattered the brief period of calm that had returned to Bawku, leaving residents fearful and restricted to their neighborhoods to avoid danger.
Despite a curfew imposed in November 2024 to curb the violence, security remains fragile, and authorities have yet to identify the attackers or offer updates on how they plan to address the ongoing threats. The violence continues to raise concerns about the stability of the region and the safety of its residents.
