- The Ghana Union Movement rejects claims of supporting the May 5 protest against the Chief Justice's suspension
- Calls for a thorough investigation into the Chief Justice's case before any action
- GUM emphasizes addressing issues through legal channels
The Ghana Union Movement (GUM) has firmly rejected claims of its involvement in a planned demonstration against the suspension and potential removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkonoo.
Reports have suggested that a demonstration is set for Monday, May 5, 2025, organized by political groups opposing the Chief Justice’s removal. However, GUM has distanced itself from these claims.
In an interview on Lawson TV/Radio Ghana’s Se Sen, Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, clarified that he had no knowledge of any meeting regarding the demonstration.
He explained that while Nana B, the National Organizer, had spoken to GUM’s communication director about it, the meeting took place without his awareness.
Osofo Kyiri Abosom emphasized that the state must conduct a thorough investigation into the petitions against the Chief Justice before any decisions can be made.
He stated, “If the investigation proves her guilty, then action can be taken, but without an investigation, there is no basis for a demonstration.”
The GUM founder reaffirmed the party’s dedication to upholding democracy and the rule of law, urging that any concerns about the Chief Justice be addressed through legal channels.
He also instructed all GUM members to refrain from participating in the protest, reiterating that the party neither endorses nor supports the demonstration.
GUM’s stance underscores the importance of due process in matters of judicial conduct.
