Govt to Reduce Ordinary Passport Fee from GH¢500 to GH¢350

Move Aims to Make Passports More Affordable While Maintaining Security Standards

The government has announced a significant reduction in the cost of an ordinary passport, slashing the fee from GH¢500 to GH¢350—a drop of over 25%.

This move aims to make passports more affordable while maintaining top-tier security standards.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa made the announcement in Parliament on March 13, 2025, stating that the reduction aligns with the government’s commitment to easing financial burdens on Ghanaians.

To facilitate the new pricing, an amendment to the fees and charges will be presented for parliamentary approval in the coming days. Additionally, the Ministry is set to roll out a door-to-door passport delivery service as part of a 24-hour service initiative.

This development follows a previous hike in passport fees in April 2024, which was implemented under the 2023 Fees and Charges Regulations, L.I. 2481.
