The Minister-Designate for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has vowed to enhance stadium security following the tragic events at the Nsoatre Park during a match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko on February 2, 2025.

The violent clash led to the death of a supporter, reigniting concerns about safety at sporting venues. Adams stressed that the incident serves as a grim reminder of Ghana’s past stadium disasters, including the 2001 Accra Sports Stadium tragedy that claimed over 120 lives.

Speaking in an interview, Adams assured the public that the government will conduct a thorough review of security measures, improve intelligence gathering, and enhance emergency response protocols to prevent future occurrences.

“We cannot allow history to repeat itself. Security protocols will be strengthened, and stricter measures will be put in place to safeguard fans and players,” he stated.

Investigations are underway to determine whether emergency response efforts were adequate. Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, along with two others, in connection with the violent clash.
