Government Imposes Curfew on Walewale Amid Security Concerns
Interior Ministry enforces dusk-to-dawn restrictions and bans weapons to restore peace in the North East Region

The Interior Ministry has imposed a curfew on Walewale and its surrounding areas in the North East Region, effective from Saturday, February 15, 2025.
In a statement signed by Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, the directive was issued based on recommendations from the North East Regional Security Council. The curfew, enforced by Executive Instrument, will be in place from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily.
Additionally, a strict ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons has been declared. The Ministry has cautioned that anyone found with such items will face arrest and prosecution.
The government has called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and the youth to remain calm and seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts. It also reaffirmed its commitment to restoring stability and urged full cooperation from residents to maintain law and order.
