Goosie Tanoh: NDC Knew Mahama Would Win Big Back in June 2024

Story Highlights
  • An internal NDC poll in June 2024 accurately forecasted Mahama’s landslide victory
  • Despite early confidence, the party remained cautious due to unpredictable voter behavior
  • Private and public polls aligned, confirming strong support for Mahama before the elections.

Augustus Goosie Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programmes, has disclosed that an internal National Democratic Congress (NDC) poll conducted in June 2024 accurately predicted President John Dramani Mahama’s overwhelming win in the general elections.

Mr. Tanoh noted that the decisive victory did not come as a shock to the NDC’s key strategists.

During a July 2 interview, he revealed that while external polls like Global InfoAnalytics showed strong public backing for the NDC, the party remained cautious in its outlook.

Despite one campaign team member being confident as early as June that a landslide was imminent, the party chose not to fully depend on polling data, mindful of the unpredictability of Ghanaian voters, who often make final decisions close to election time.

“I was surprised because, traditionally, Ghanaians decide in October, but after reviewing several polls—including our own private surveys—it became clear we were heading for a landslide. One team member was convinced by June, and although we stayed cautious, he was ultimately proven right,” Tanoh explained.
