GMet Warns of More Intense Rainfall Across Ghana

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has alerted the public to anticipate more frequent and intense rainfall in the coming days, urging Ghanaians—especially those in low-lying areas—to stay vigilant and take precautionary measures.
This alert follows a recent downpour that caused widespread flooding in parts of the Greater Accra Region, affecting areas such as Pantang, Nsawam, Lakeside, and Kasoa.
During an interview on May 19, Felicity Ahafianyo, Head of GMet’s Central Analysis and Forecast Office, emphasized the need for increased public preparedness during the ongoing rainy season.
She urged residents in flood-prone communities to consider relocating temporarily, warning that the rains have only just begun.
“In our seasonal forecast, we predicted not only more frequent rainfall but also an increase in intensity. What we’re experiencing now, especially along the coast and recently in the Volta Region, is just the beginning,” she said.
Ahafianyo added that these conditions are expected to persist throughout the southern sector until the major rainy season concludes.
She also appealed to the media to actively disseminate weather updates from GMet to help keep communities informed and safe.
