The Planning Committee overseeing the dissolution of the 8th Parliament and the inauguration of the 9th Parliament has guaranteed a smooth and peaceful process.
The 8th Parliament will be officially dissolved on Monday, January 6, 2025, with newly elected Members of the 9th Parliament gathering at 11:00 PM to elect a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers.
Camillo Pwamang, Deputy Coordinator for the Dissolution and Inauguration Committee and Deputy Clerk of Parliament, emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s democracy during this transition.
He expressed confidence that the process would be seamless, respectful of constitutional procedures, and inclusive, promoting transparency and national unity.
“This transition is another step in strengthening our democracy. We are committed to ensuring efficiency, inclusivity, and openness, making Parliament’s processes more accessible to the public,” Pwamang stated.
Gifty Twum Ampofo, Chairperson of the Planning Committee, reassured the public that the election of the Speaker would be conducted fairly and transparently, with the collaboration of all relevant stakeholders.
The Speaker’s election on January 6, 2025, will set the tone for the upcoming legislative term.
Looking ahead to the Presidential Inauguration on January 7, 2025, Ampofo urged Ghanaians to unite and celebrate the beginning of a new era in governance, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to its democratic values.
