Ghana’s economy recorded a robust growth of 7.2% in the third quarter of 2024, according to provisional figures released by the Ghana Statistical Service.
This marks an improvement from the 6.9% growth seen in the second quarter of the year.
The Services sector remains the largest contributor to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), accounting for 42.9% of GDP at basic prices.
Following this, the Industry and Agriculture sectors contributed 32.6% and 24.5%, respectively.
In terms of sectoral growth, the Industry sector led with the highest real GDP growth of 10.4% year-on-year.
This was followed by the Services sector, which grew by 6.4%, while the Agriculture sector saw a more modest growth of 3.2%.
Within Agriculture, the crops sub-sector experienced the most significant expansion, growing by 5.9% year-on-year and 1.3% quarter-on-quarter.
In contrast, the fishing sub-sector faced a notable contraction, with a -21.7% decline year-on-year and -6.5% quarter-on-quarter.
In the Industry sector, mining and quarrying showed positive growth, while the water and sewerage sub-sector experienced a downturn.
Within the Services sector, Information and Communication showed the most growth, while other personal services activities saw a decline in the third quarter.
