The 8th Parliament of Ghana has officially been dissolved in accordance with the Constitution, marking the conclusion of a session led by Speaker Alban Bagbin.

This parliament made history as the country’s first-ever hung parliament.

Though Speaker Bagbin had suspended the House on January 6, 2024, the dissolution took place at midnight, between January 6 and 7.

As the 9th Parliament’s Members-elect have already taken their seats in the Chamber, they await the official commencement of parliamentary proceedings. The MPs-elect will soon be sworn in by the Clerk of Parliament, after which the election for the next Speaker will take place.

Alban Bagbin continues to enjoy strong backing from President-Elect John Dramani Mahama and the Majority side, led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
