As Ghana commemorates its 68th Independence Day on March 6, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on citizens to foster peace, unity, and economic growth for a stronger nation.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the significance of the occasion, urging Ghanaians to work together in shaping the country’s future.
“I wish all Ghanaians a happy 68th Independence Day. It is my prayer that we continue to live in peace, united for political and economic progress, and uphold our common heritage,” he stated.
Echoing the theme of this year’s celebration, “Reflect, Review, Reset,” he emphasized the importance of collective effort in driving national development.
“We are one people, one nation with a common destiny. May our future be filled with happiness, cohesion, and positive transformation,” he added.
This year’s celebration took a more modest approach due to economic constraints, with the main event held at the Jubilee House instead of the traditional Black Star Square. The ceremony featured a Military Guard of Honour, cultural performances, and a poetry recital by a senior high school student.
Ghana’s Independence Day stands as a testament to the nation’s hard-won freedom from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957.
