On Monday, April 28, 2025, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Major General William Agyapong, convened a meeting with all Two-Star Generals of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at his Burma Camp office in a significant moment of transition.

During the meeting, Major General Agyapong conveyed deep appreciation for the generals’ unwavering commitment and distinguished service, offering thanks on behalf of the President and Commander-in-Chief.

He praised their professionalism and leadership, recognizing their critical roles in upholding the integrity and strength of the Armed Forces.

In line with GAF regulations and as part of efforts to streamline command and control, the CDS announced that several of the gathered generals would be honorably released from active service.

Speaking on behalf of the departing officers, Major General Irvine Aryeetey, Commandant of the National College of Defence Studies, emphasized that such transitions are a routine and respected part of military tradition. He referenced previous leadership changes, highlighting the continuity through generational intakes as a cornerstone of the GAF’s structure.

Aryeetey thanked the CDS for his respectful gesture of formally acknowledging their service, describing the occasion as both meaningful and unprecedented.

The meeting concluded with a farewell luncheon hosted by Major General Agyapong, who extended his best wishes to the outgoing officers as they enter a new chapter beyond military service.

The gathering also saw the presence of Service Chiefs and the Chief of Staff from the General Headquarters, underscoring the importance of the event in the Armed Forces’ leadership timeline.
