Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to synchronize its financial and operational activities with the government’s broader objectives, emphasizing fiscal discipline and accountability.
Adams referenced President John Dramani Mahama’s directive banning foreign travel without prior approval from the Chief of Staff and restricting first-class travel.
“Even yesterday at our swearing-in, His Excellency the President made it clear: foreign travels are banned unless cleared by the Chief of Staff, and even then, no one is allowed to fly first class—business class at most,” Adams stated during an interview.
“This directive reflects the President’s vision of fiscal prudence, and it’s imperative that the GFA adopts the same mindset. The GFA cannot operate in isolation while the government prioritizes discipline and accountability.”
Adams also expressed concerns about the deteriorating state of Ghanaian football, citing a lack of trust between management and fans. He emphasized the need for dialogue to rebuild confidence and align operations with national priorities.
“We will engage the GFA to reach a common understanding, and I trust they will cooperate. Our football is struggling, and the trust level between management and fans is at an all-time low,” he remarked.
