The Ghana Education Service (GES) has rescheduled the reopening date for single-track senior high schools (SHSs) from March 29, 2025, to April 23, 2025.
This decision, outlined in a circular dated March 27, 2025, was communicated to all regional education directors. The directive, signed by Prince C. Agyeman-Duah on behalf of the Acting Director-General, instructs heads of institutions to inform students, parents, and guardians of the change.
Reason for the Delay
The initial reopening date was moved due to the Eid-Ul-Fitr public holidays on March 30 and 31. The President, through an Executive Instrument, extended the holidays to April 1. Further considerations, including travel risks and the upcoming Easter holidays, led to a final shift to April 23.
GES Justifies the Decision
GES spokesperson Cassandra Twum-Ampofo explained that bringing students back just before consecutive holidays would have caused unnecessary travel disruptions. She assured that additional instructional hours would compensate for lost academic time.
The adjustment applies only to single-track SHSs, while double-track students will continue with their original academic schedule.
