The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has swiftly set up a committee to delve into the shocking shooting incident at the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Senior High School in Bantama, which left two students injured.

According to Henry Osei Boateng, the GES Regional PRO, the investigative team is hitting the ground running, with members drawn from the metro education office and the SDA unit.

The regional director is spearheading the committee’s activities, with findings expected to determine what disciplinary actions will follow.

“The committee begins work today. We’re only waiting on a few members. Once ready, they’ll proceed to the school to start investigations. The report will be made public,” Boateng stated.

The incident unfolded on Friday, April 4, 2025, after an altercation broke out among students over a firearm reportedly held by Bernard Amoabeng, a Form Two student. The argument escalated, leading to a shooting that injured two students. Amoabeng is currently in police custody.

One of the injured students, Penamang, was seriously hurt and taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He has since been discharged but is still undergoing medical review.

In response, the GES headquarters has mandated all senior high schools to conduct routine searches to prevent similar incidents. Teachers are expected to receive special training to carry out these exercises effectively.

Boateng reiterated that student safety remains a top priority and assured that robust security measures will be reinforced across all schools.
