Gambaga: Gunmen Kill Final-Year Student After Returning from UCL Match Viewing

Assailants on a motorbike open fire on two Gambaga College students, killing one and critically injuring the other in a suspected chieftaincy conflict attack.

Tragedy struck at Gambaga College of Education as two final-year students on teaching practice were shot by unidentified gunmen late Wednesday night, March 12, 2025.

One of the victims, identified as Salifu, died instantly, while the other sustained critical injuries and remains hospitalized.

Reports indicate that the students had just returned from a DSTV viewing center, where they had watched the UEFA Champions League match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. As they stood outside their residence discussing the game, assailants on a motorbike approached, identified them, and opened fire at close range before speeding off.

Police responded to the scene, transporting the deceased’s body to the morgue while launching an investigation into the attack.

Meanwhile, sources reveal that just two weeks earlier, unknown gunmen attempted an attack on another Kusasi student in Gambaga, though it was unsuccessful.

The attacks are suspected to be linked to the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has fueled tensions in the area.
