Seven Soldiers Under Investigation for Alleged Assault on Civilians Over Phone Theft Claim

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has initiated an investigation into an alleged assault on three civilians by seven military personnel in Kumasi on Friday, March 28, 2025.
The accused, comprising three officers and four soldiers, reportedly apprehended and attacked the individuals over accusations of stealing a mobile phone belonging to another civilian.
A statement from the Military High Command confirmed that the victims sustained varying degrees of injuries. The Military Police, in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police CID, is leading a detailed inquiry to establish the facts.
The implicated soldiers have been placed under closed arrest as investigations continue. The High Command has assured the public that anyone found guilty will face legal consequences.
“We urge the families and friends of the victims to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigations,” said Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations for GAF.
