Former NPP Upper West Nasara Coordinator Applauds Kwabena Agyepong’s Constitutional Reform Proposals
Alhaji Osman Tankari Backs Proposal to Empower Former Party Executives in NPP’s Electoral Process

- Alhaji Osman Tankari commends Kwabena Agyepong’s proposal
- He highlights how sidelining experienced leaders has weakened the party’s grassroots base
- Tankari believes the reform will energize the party and boost its chances in the 2028 elections
Former Nasara Coordinator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper West Region, Alhaji Osman Mohammed Tankari, has praised Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong for proposing bold constitutional reforms aimed at revitalizing the party’s internal structures.
Ing. Agyepong, a former General Secretary of the NPP, has put forward a proposal to moderately expand the party’s electoral college. His plan seeks to include former national, regional, and constituency executives, Members of Parliament, ministers, deputy ministers, and metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives (MMDCEs) in delegate voting. This, he believes, will foster broader participation and bring valuable experience into the party’s decision-making processes.
In a public statement, Alhaji Osman Tankari hailed the initiative, describing it as both thoughtful and patriotic.
“The idea of including former party executives in the delegate elections is commendable. Whoever proposed this deserves recognition—not just as a critical thinker, but as a truly God-fearing and loyal member of the NPP,” he said.”
He revealed that during his time as a regional executive, he was tasked with compiling a comprehensive list of all living former Upper West Regional executives of the party from 1992 to date.
He described the exercise as a humbling experience.
“Some of the names I came across surprised me—not because they were unknown, but because it was clear how many of our once-prominent leaders have been forgotten over time,” he stated.
“These individuals carry a wealth of knowledge and political experience, yet many have been sidelined from party activities for far too long. Their exclusion has weakened our grassroots engagement and denied the party crucial strategic insights.”
Alhaji Tankari expressed confidence that the adoption of Agyepong’s proposal would mark a turning point for the NPP.
He expressed the hope that “I am 100% confident that if the National Delegates Congress approves this proposal to amend our constitution, it will mark a turning point. The inclusion of former executives will not only revive grassroots enthusiasm but also place the party on a stronger footing to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.”

*A Thoughtful Proposal That Can Rejuvenate the Party*
Whoever mooted the idea of including former party executives in the delegate elections deserves commendation , not only as a critical thinker but as a truly God fearing and patriotic member of the NPP.
As a former regional executive, I was tasked by my Regional Secretary to compile a comprehensive list of all living former regional executives of the Upper West Region from 1992 to date. This exercise was deeply humbling. Some of the names I encountered shocked me and not because they were unfamiliar, but because it became clear how many of our once-vibrant leaders have been forgotten.
These individuals, with their wealth of experience and tested political acumen, have been sidelined and left out of party activities for far too long. Their exclusion has not only weakened our base but deprived the party of valuable strategic insight.
I am 100% confident that if the National Delegates Congress approves this proposal to amend our constitution, it will mark a turning point. The inclusion of former executives will not only revive grassroots enthusiasm but also place the party on a stronger footing to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
It’s time we honour those who laid the foundation, and bring them back into the fold. Let us move forward together , stronger, wiser, and united.
Alhaji Osman Mohammed Tankari.
