- Okrah accused of altering the list of Assembly Members selected for the Council of State election without consultation
- Protestors claim Okrah misappropriated Assembly resources
- Assembly Members demand Okrah’s immediate transfer
The Coordinating Director for Adansi North in the Ashanti Region, Thomas Kwame Okrah, hastily fled his office on February 5, 2025, as Assembly Members launched a protest demanding his removal.
The protestors accused Okrah of showing disrespect to the Assembly Members and misappropriating Assembly resources, including the misuse of DRIP machines for personal gain.
Additionally, allegations surfaced that Okrah tampered with the list of Assembly Members chosen to participate in the upcoming Council of State election.
In anticipation of the protest, Okrah quickly vacated his office before the Fomena police intervened to restore order.
Although calm was eventually restored, the protestors have petitioned traditional authorities, the regional minister, and other relevant officials, calling for his immediate removal from the district.
Presiding Member Dominic Odame Kusi explained in an interview on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show with Kwame Tanko on Lawson TV/Radio the reasons behind the protest.
He revealed that Okrah had altered the names of Assembly Members designated for the Council of State election without consulting them.
The protestors also raised concerns about the alleged misuse of DRIP machines, asserting that they were being used for unauthorized purposes.
“We no longer wish to work with him,” Kusi said, adding that they had submitted a petition requesting Okrah’s transfer, with assurances that they would receive a response soon.
Odame Kusi said they met with the Regional Coordinating Council and Chief Director, and have assured them that the issue would be resolved.
