A heartbreaking accident on the Accra–Kumasi Highway has resulted in the loss of several lives and left many others injured following a collision between a VIP bus and a cargo truck.
The incident happened on Wednesday, June 25, near Oframase, close to Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality.
According to early reports, a VIP bus with registration number GR-2399 was involved in a head-on crash with a flour-loaded cargo truck traveling from the opposite direction.
The force of the impact led to multiple fatalities, with some of the victims sadly suffering severe injuries. Emergency responders, including personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD) and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), arrived swiftly to assist and help restore order.
Both vehicles have since been removed from the scene, allowing traffic to flow once again. Injured passengers were taken to Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital and nearby facilities, where they are receiving treatment.
Officials have not yet confirmed the exact number of casualties, citing challenges with identification. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, though some road users have pointed to the poor condition of the highway—particularly the presence of potholes—as a contributing factor.
Authorities, including the Ghana Police Service and the Kwahu West Municipal Fire Department, are expected to provide a full report in the coming days.
