Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has pledged to secure a reduction in DStv subscription prices following widespread complaints from Ghanaians over high charges.
Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, July 3, Sam George acknowledged the public’s frustration and emphasized the government’s dedication to ensuring digital services are fair, affordable, and aligned with the country’s economic realities.
He revealed that the Ministry has already begun discussions with DStv’s local representatives, focusing on issues of cost, value for money, and quality of service. A pivotal meeting is scheduled for July 4 with representatives from both the Ghanaian and South African branches of the service provider.
“Our talks have centered on the affordability and fairness of the pricing model. I’ve made the Ministry’s position clear—DStv’s pricing must reflect the economic conditions of Ghana,” he said.
Sam George assured Ghanaians that outcomes from the upcoming meeting will be communicated promptly and vowed not to leave the table without securing a price reduction. “That’s my promise to you,” he declared, underlining the government’s commitment to protecting consumers and promoting accountability in the digital space.
