Elon Musk Threatens to Form a New Party in the US

Billionaire blasts Trump-backed spending bill, vows to launch 'America Party' to challenge political status quo

Story Highlights
  • Elon Musk threatens to launch the "America Party"
  • Breaks with Trump, citing concerns over $5 trillion debt increase
  • Pledges to challenge Republican lawmakers who support the bill

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has threatened to form a new political party in the United States, marking a dramatic escalation in his feud with President Donald Trump and the broader Republican establishment.

The tech mogul’s statement came as a blistering response to a controversial economic bill championed by Trump — a bill Musk has slammed as “insane” and fiscally irresponsible. If the bill passes, Musk warned, “The America Party will be formed the next day.”

“Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE,” he wrote on his platform X, blasting both major parties for what he described as decades of shared dysfunction.

Musk Turns on Trump

Musk’s comments reflect the total collapse of what was once a powerful alliance. The billionaire previously supported Trump’s presidential run and other Republican campaigns. But their relationship soured in recent weeks following the unveiling of the new fiscal bill, which Musk claims would explode the national debt by $5 trillion.

While Democratic lawmakers have criticized the bill for favoring the ultra-wealthy and slashing vital social programs, Musk’s opposition stems from what he sees as reckless government spending. In a flurry of late-night posts, he vowed to bankroll primary challengers to any Republican lawmakers backing the bill, accusing them of betrayal.

“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!” Musk wrote.

Trump Fires Back

President Trump didn’t hold back either. In a series of posts on Truth Social, he took aim at Musk’s businesses — and the government subsidies that help fuel them.

“Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!” Trump wrote, referencing the Department of Government Efficiency — an agency Musk once led.

He continued, “Elon may get more subsidies than any human being in history. Without them, he’d have to shut down everything and head back to South Africa. No more rockets, satellites, or electric cars. Our country would save a FORTUNE.”

Trump also took a jab at Musk’s EV ambitions, noting, “Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one.”

A Political Earthquake Brewing?

While Musk hasn’t offered details on what the “America Party” would look like or who might join it, his latest remarks suggest he’s serious about disrupting the long-standing two-party dominance in U.S. politics.

In a surprising twist, Musk even claimed partial credit for Trump’s political success. “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” he boasted — a statement he later partially walked back.

But Monday’s fiery posts leave little doubt: the Musk-Trump bromance is over, and a new political power struggle is underway. Whether Musk follows through on his promise to launch a new party remains to be seen — but in typical fashion, he’s already shaken up the political landscape.
