Electoral Commission Sets June 20 Deadline To Pay 2024 Election Staff
Seven months after the elections, the EC confirms receipt of funds from the Finance Ministry and promises to pay all temporary workers by June 20.

- The EC has received money from the Ministry of Finance to pay 2024 temporary election staff
- All affected workers are expected to be paid by June 20, 2025
- The move follows growing public complaints, including a protest on live radio by unpaid staff
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced that it has finally received funds from the Ministry of Finance to pay temporary staff who worked during the 2024 General Elections. The Commission has set Friday, June 20, 2025 as the deadline for all outstanding allowances to be disbursed.
In a statement signed by EC Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Commission assured the affected workers that it is “working round the clock” to process payments promptly. This announcement marks a significant step forward after seven months of delays since the December 2024 polls.
“We are pleased to inform you that the Ministry of Finance has today, Thursday, 12th of June, 2025, released funds for the payment of temporary staff,” the statement read. “Temporary staff should expect to receive their allowances on or before Friday, 20th June, 2025. We thank you for your patience and cooperation.”
The delay in payments has drawn widespread criticism.
Just weeks ago, some disgruntled temporary workers took to Lawson TV/Radio’s ‘Ghana Se Sen’ morning show to express their frustration over the prolonged silence from the Electoral Commission and the government.
That media appearance seems to have been a turning point, as pressure mounted on the authorities to act. With today’s confirmation, many of the workers say they are hopeful, though cautious, as they await the promised payments.
The EC has not disclosed the total amount disbursed or the number of workers affected, but the assurance of a clear deadline has brought some relief to those who had nearly given up hope.
