A significant military presence has been deployed at the Ejura Sekyedumase constituency collation centre in the Ashanti Region as vote sorting and counting got underway.
As sorting began in the evening, a truckload of armed soldiers arrived at the premises, drawing attention from nearby residents who were heard shouting as the officers disembarked.
The soldiers assured the public they were present only to observe the ongoing proceedings.
Earlier, journalists expressed concerns after being blocked by police and Electoral Commission (EC) officials from entering the sorting and counting area.
However, the media has since gained access to the venue, although political party observers were informed by the EC that they must first undergo proper verification.
Voting concluded across all 276 constituencies in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
The elections, which started early Saturday morning, saw a strong turnout from citizens eager to cast their votes and choose the country’s next leaders.
