Energy Minister John Jinapor has disclosed that 40 out of the over 1,300 missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have been tracked down and seized.
Speaking in an interview Jinapor revealed that the containers were discovered in a warehouse in Kpone, owned by an Indian national who has since been arrested. National security operatives, acting on intelligence, confiscated the containers and moved them to a secure location.
The suspect claims he legally purchased the containers last year, but investigations are ongoing to verify his statement and identify those responsible. The minister assured that all missing containers would be retrieved and culprits brought to justice, dismissing any claims of witch-hunting.
The revelation follows an independent audit, which found that out of 2,491 containers meant for ECG at Tema Port, only 1,134 were accounted for, leaving 1,357 missing. Authorities are intensifying efforts to recover the rest.
